My AC does not turn on?
First check your power sources check your AC breaker and see if it tripped if so turn it off for five minutes and turn it back on. Sometimes the breaker can trip due to not having the right size breaker/ not always the case. Also check your furnace or Air handler breaker to see if it tripped. My Blower is running but my outside AC does not turn on?
First make sure the AC unit breaker has not tripped if so reset it. If it does not turn on after reset. The capacitor can be dead. The capacitor is like a battery that goes out or loses it's charge over time. Some home owners like like to change the capacitor out themselves. First you have to see if the issue is the capacitor. If you do not have a meter to test the capacitor you can get one from Home Depot or our shop on HVAC-help.net only test the capacitor with out the power being on. Most Capacitors say 25+5uF or something similar. You want to test Common to Herm and then Common to Fan. A good reading would be within +or - 5-6%. It will give you all the info on the current Capacitor. After testing the Capacitor and it tests out of the range of what the current Capacitor says go to Home Depot or HVAC-help.net and get the correct size capacitor and change it out wire for wire. This is important when changing out the capacitor you want to do this wire for wire take a picture of the wires before you disconnect and either look at that picture while you're putting on the new capacitor or just take one wire off and put it on the proper place if it's common put it on common if it's herm, put it on her if it's fan put it on fan. My HVAC is not keeping up, not cooling or not heating.
First, let's check air flow. Let check the filters and make sure they are clean. Second, let's check the outside condenser unit coil is it dirty? If so let's clean it with just cool water. Let's see if that makes a difference. Third, go outside and put your hand above the fan if it's in cool mode the temperature of the wind coming out of the fan should be worm not cool. If it's cool sometimes off. Check the copper lines connected to the condenser unit. The large line should be Condensating. If not then we have a bigger problem. Why is my HVAC making a loud or funny noise
This is a very common question. First, I would pinpoint where it's coming from. If it's coming from the return and where the filter is, I would check the filter. If the filter is dirty I would replace the filter. Second if it's coming from the filter or the area where the filter is I would check the size of the filter and make sure it is the proper size. Some filters are too small or too large. If you have to force the filter in it is not the proper size. Now if it's outside for the condensing unit and it's making a rattling noise, I would check all of my screws on the outside of that unit to make sure all screws are tightened first. If it's making a noise like more like a rumbling after you've checked the screws and maybe it is the compressor or it sounds like maybe a engine I would seek professional help and get a pro out to diagnose further. My HVAC is to loud?
First, you wanna check and make sure that all your screws are tightened from the outside as well as the condensing unit and the furnace or air handler. Second, you want to make sure the filters are tight and are they fit in the space the return . Third you wanna make sure the unit is the correct size for your home you can look at the data plate on the outside unit and get the model and serial number and depending on the manufacturer the name of the manufacturer you can put into Google and say look up the manufacturer fill in the blank. And it will come up and show you the size of the unit and then you can look up square footage of your home. I think my drain line is clogged?
If your drain line is clogged first of all, see where it runs out of the house at if it runs out of the house outside, and you have a shop vac you can unclog the drain line with the shop vac. If it is connected to a downstairs sink you may be able to pull the black hose or the additional hose under your sink apart. You'll need a few tools and suck it from that paper hose. Or if it is extremely clogged, you will need a plumber if it's clogged from the sink all the way down to the ground or the sewer. If you understand the scope of work that you're doing and you're confident and you have the right tools then yes it's OK to do the work but safety is always first and make sure that you're safe and everyone else is safe around you.
